Antique shops abound in Florala and folks come from all over the Gulf Coast to browse or sort through the stores for the next Antique Road Show treasure. There are many antique shops located in the century old buildings downtown and sometimes it makes you feel like you have taken a step back in time. The Wetlands Park is an elevated walkway, handicap accessible, on the edge of Lake Jackson in the heart of Florala. The walkway takes you through a cypress swamp area with many of the plants identified. Stroll among the moss draped trees or sit in one of the several pavilions located for your convenience. Finks Mill is one of the few water driven grist mills still in operation in the South. Corn is ground almost every week day for local markets and not much has changed here for many years. Located east of Paxton, Fl. Numerous sawmills cut virgin long leaf yellow pine from the huge old growth stands of trees in this area. As the cities grew and prospered the mill owners and managers built large homes from this prime lumber. Many of the smaller homes in the area were built for the workers and their families. There are several examples of these homes still left and represent some of the finest examples of Southern Architecture in Alabama.
